Steps for preparing for a return to work

While the daily work routine has changed for most Americans and may be changing back sometime soon, the process of disinfecting office spaces has changed dramatically since March of 2020. The materials used and the steps to take have been altered or increased.

Step One: Think About it

Look around your workplace. Determine where workers are likely to gather (kitchen, lunchroom, locker room) and decide what rules need to be in place about how many people can be in one of those places at a time, safely and within social distancing parameters. Consider the ventilation of those spaces when determining the human capacity going forward.

Step Two: Set the Rules

Are masks going to be standard for all employees, all of the time? This is a fundamental decision that must be made, and it must be clear what rules are going to be applied in order to achieve compliance by everyone in the office.

Step Three: Creating Barriers

The effect of plexiglass in separating employees and customers is standard operating procedure for most businesses operating for consumers. Is there a need to construct such barriers in your workplace?

Step Four: Signage

The concern among CDC officials is that a return to work will signal a return to pre-pandemic behaviors, and that is not a wise behavior. You need to have signage in the office indicating the need to wash hands constantly, maintain a social distance from others, and wear a mask when around other employees. It’s a simple move that could serve as a constant reminder.
